What Products & Tools Do I Need to Clean a Bathroom?

Bathrooms tend to be the most ‘involved’ room when it comes to cleaning. It’s also the most satisfying room to clean in my personal opinion. If you’re the type of person that enjoys that before/after transformation…clean your bathroom.

To ensure cleaning success, source the right products and tools. Lack of proper products or tools can lead to burnout, frustration, and simply throwing in the towel before you’ve begun.

I recommend organizing your supplies in a caddy, which can be carried throughout the home as you clean. Depending on how many bathrooms you have in your space, this can also come in handy with just being able to transport your products from bathroom to bathroom.

The Tidy People cleaning product line was made for bathroom cleaning. Our entire 5 pack collection of starter kits is utilized in bathroom cleaning. Honestly, you don’t really need much more than that (products-wise). I will break it down for you below, however, so that you have a detailed description of what each product is used for.

All Purpose Spray

An all purpose spray is used for vanity countertops, exterior surfaces of the toilet, spraying and wiping down walls and baseboards, final cleanup of different surfaces in the shower that might have lingering soap scum adhering to surfaces.

⭐️ The Tidy People All Purpose Spray

Sink+Toilet Cleaner

A super concentrated cleaner that gets mixed with water and scrubbed with a sponge + edging brush for both the sinks and toilets will help clean these areas up nicely.

💦  A few dollops of this super concentrated non-toxic Sink+Toilet Cleaner by The Tidy People will do!

Shower Cleaner

I’ve used all sorts of application methods for shower cleaners, such as a bottle with a spout. Personally, I like using a high output sprayer to evenly distribute the shower cleaner onto the surfaces of the shower, to make scrubbing a little easier.

Glass Cleaner

A good streak-free eco friendly glass cleaner will help make all the difference with finishing touches to mirrors + glass shower doors in the bathroom.

Floor Cleaner

Once you vacuum or sweep the floors in the final steps of cleaning the bathroom, you’ll need a super concentrated floor cleaner that will get diluted with water in a bucket.

Terry Cloth Towels

Prioritize the use of terry cloth cleaning towels. This is a must-have cleaning tool. The fabric naturally has little micro scrubbers in it, which helps aid in the scrubbing process. They’re also super absorbent and have a low level of dust that gets left behind when buffering or polishing a surface. They can easily be thrown in the wash and be reused for years to come.

🧺 keep a bucket full of terry cloth towels — you can use these towels to polish and dry the shower + shower products, spray and wipe vanity counter tops, spray and wipe down the exterior surfaces of the toilet, glass clean, dust, and mop floors.

Gloves

I teach toilet cleaning in the most non-conventional way: by using a reusable sponge to scrub. This is mostly where the use of gloves come in handy in the bathroom,  but bathrooms tend to be a pretty germ-y place. Using gloves especially when scrubbing the “wet” areas (such as the shower, sink, and toilet) tends to help greatly.

🦠 reusable gloves to protect your hands from germs!

Knee Pads

To move with ease, using a pair of knee pads can make all of the difference. Especially when scrubbing the lower parts of the bathroom, such as the bottom of the shower, baseboards, toilet, etc.

Sponges

There are a couple of different types of sponges that I like to use in the bathroom:

🧼 sponge with an abrasive backing so that you can lift soap scum off of shower walls. This is a disposable sponge, but you’ll get quite a few uses out of this.
🧽 reusable scrub pads to scrub the sink and toilet

Brushes

Brushes can help when edging surfaces with tight crevices that are hard to reach.

🪥 hard bristled grout brush to edge the corners of the shower/tub, grout, and around metal fixtures by faucets.
⚡️ large scrub brush (only needed if: you have a surface with an uneven texture such as textured shower tile, textured floors, or the underside of a bathmat with suction cups that need cleaning)

Buckets

Having 2-3 buckets for bathroom cleaning is ideal. One for clean towels, one for dirty towels, one for rinsing the shower after scrubbing, and then using that rinsing bucket to make a mopping water solution for floor cleaning.

Squeegee + Scrubber

Using a squeegee and a scrubber tool together (that’s dedicated specifically to glass cleaner and water, only) will help expedite the glass cleaning process greatly. You can also use the squeegee to remove excess water in the shower after scrubbing and rinsing it.

Hard Floor Vacuum or Broom

Basic, but if you’re just gathering supplies as a new adult and are living in your first space OR if you’re moving into a new home and need to gather supplies, this is a must have. I’ve added broom under this category, as it’s a tool that’s much more easily accessible than a hard floor vacuum. If you have the means to invest in a floor vacuum, this replaces the function of a broom. It’s much more hypoallergenic as it will pick up dust particles vs. a broom will push dust particles up in the air.
