How to Clean a Bathroom

Bathroom cleaning tends to be the most labor intensive. It has more steps involved than any other room in the house. It also uses more cleaning products. For this reason, I like to start here when it comes to teaching someone how to clean.

If you get bathroom cleaning down, cleaning the rest of the house can come a little easier. While there are many steps involved in cleaning the bathroom, it’s a very rewarding room to clean! That before/after transformation is VERY apparent.

I break down bathroom cleaning into “zones”.

In a full bathroom, you’ve got 5 zones:
(1) shower/tub
(2) sink & vanity
(3) toilet
(4) dusting
(5) floor

The first 3 zones can be done in any order, but it’s essential that zone 4 and 5 (dusting and floor) be saved as the last 2 steps and in the particular order listed. Complete each of these zones and you complete a full bathroom cleaning.

I recommend cleaning all zones in one setting, but for time sake if you need to break it down into multiple days, you can do the shower on one day and save the rest of the bathroom for another day (zones 2-5). Another way to see it is that a “half bathroom” means a bathroom without a shower. So, you can clean your bathroom as a half bathroom clean and/or apply this concept to an actual half bathroom in your home.

For each zone, you’ll find a list of supplies you’ll need (and what each product/tool is used for) and resources on how-to clean each zone.
