Towel Techniques Guide
The tools you use in cleaning are just as important as the products you use. While a good cleaning product will help you loosen dirt and debris, the tools are just as important — and often do the heavy lifting for you!
One essential tool that will help aide you in your cleaning efforts, are terry cloth cleaning towels. Not only are reusable cleaning towels are good for the environment, they’re also far more effective than say, paper towels.
I posted a reel on Instagram a while back about terry cloth cleaning towels and how my unpopular opinion is that terry cloth towels are by far superior to microfiber towels:
I was surprised to hear in the comments that so many others felt the same! Everything from the fabric being synthetic (and being irritating to the touch), to the fact that they lose the ‘static’ which is the allure in the first place. Not to mention, they don’t have anywhere near the scrubbing power that terry cloth towels do.
The reason why terry cloth towels have more scrubbing power is that there are little micro scrubbers built into the fabric, naturally. The loops work as a texture that helps with the agitation needed when scrubbing/cleaning/polishing. They’re also super absorbent too which makes the whole cleaning process easier to scrub, lift, and remove buildup all in one.
In order for soap to actually work (and how it does its job), it needs two things:
💦 water
⚡️ agitation
Beyond the benefits and effectiveness of using terry cloth cleaning towels, there are some techniques that are beneficial to know to further aid in the process of cleaning:
Use Your Towel as a Buffer Tool
A super dry terry cloth works really well as a buffer tool for smudges and help polish a surface sparkling clean.
Give Your Home a Bath with a Soapy Towel
For a deeper scrub, make a soapy towel by pouring a dollop of dish soap on your towel and saturating it wet under the sink. Scrub the surface and then follow up with another fresh towel that’s dry to buffer the surfaces, remove debris, and polish dry.
For Tight Crevices, Try the One Finger Trick
Hold up your pointer finger and tent the towel over your finger, to get into tight corners during cleaning.
For Added Scrubbing Power, Try the Two Finger Trick
For added scrubbing pressure on spots with extra buildup, use 2 fingers under the towel when scrubbing instead of your entire hand.
Make Your Towel Last Longer by Using Different Sides
Fold the towel in half twice to make use of different sides. As you fold over the towel, you can trap dirt / debris inside and use the other clean sides to continue to clean and extend the life of the towel before it goes in the dirty laundry.
Hold The Towel Taught & Use the Edge to Get into Tight Corners
Using both hands, pull the towel tight and use the side of the towel to get into a tight area. A good example of this would be toilet seat edges or a fridge door crevice.
