The Holiday Cleaning Guide

As the holidays quickly approach, the task of cleaning can sneak up on you. Especially when your main focus is shopping for the groceries, holiday decor, and prepping for the meal.

Here’s some things you can do to prep in advance before the holidays approach, to create a more seamless experience:

CLEAN THE FRIDGE

Clean the fridge before grocery shopping. It will save you space and help keep things more organized. Clear out expired items and consolidate like items together into one container.

CLEAN THE OVEN

Have a clean oven to cook with for the holidays! Cooking with a clean oven makes  holiday meal that much more pleasant…and less likely to cause burning smoke to emanate throughout your space.

CLEAN THE KITCHEN

For the kitchen, I’ve got two options for you. If you’re short on time, there’s a quick clean option to spruce up areas, instead of doing a full on deep clean. Or, you might want to try the quick clean option before and do the full clean option for post-holiday cleanup.

Quick Clean

• Wash dishes
• Tidy up & put items on countertops away
• Spray and wipe countertops with The Tidy People All Purpose Spray
• Take out trash
• Quick floor sweep

Full Clean

• Wash dishes
• Hand wash removable kitchen parts: microwave plate, coffee pot, stove top drip pans, etc.
• Wipe down or dust all reachable surfaces with a wet soapy dish cloth & buffer surfaces clean with a dry towel. Organize as you go.
• Scrub, rinse, and dry sink
• Polish stainless steel
• Clean glass
• Vacuum or sweep floors
• Mop floors

CLEAN THE BATHROOM

Same with the bathroom, there’s a quick clean option to spruce up areas, instead of doing a full on deep clean:

Quick Clean

• Scrub the toilet
• Wipe down & organize sink/vanity area
• Remove trash
• Quick floor sweep

Full Clean

• Wash and replace bath mats and towel linens
• Scrub, rinse, and dry shower/ tub
• Scrub toilet
• Scrub, rinse, and dry sink
• Clean glass
• Wipe down countertops / vanity + items on top
• Dust
• Polish stainless steel and chrome
• Vacuum or sweep floors
• Mop floors

CLEAN COMMON ROOMS

Dust: all horizontal surfaces (if quick cleaning, skip this task)

Wipe down General Surfaces: tabletops, and other commonly touched surfaces

Tidy Up: remove all shoes, clothes, piles of papers, and other stacks of clutter.

VACUUM & MOP FLOORS

Lastly, if you don’t have much time to prep for the holidays — floor cleaning is going to be the best option to pick and choose from when it comes to home cleaning tasks. It’s the largest continuous surface throughout your space, which will make everything look and feel cleaner by completing this task:

Finally, to give your home all the feel-good-warm-welcoming-vibes, add some last finishing touches:

Fresh Flowers
Nice napkins or place settings for each guest or family member
Incense or other natural scents to burn such as sage, palo santos, etc.
Candles for mood lighting
Any other fun decor that goes along with your festive theme
