Quick Tips for Easy Stovetop Drip Pan Cleaning
If you have the kind of stovetop with coils and drip pans, OR, a gas stove with grates, this article is for you. For those that have a glass stovetop — consider yourself lucky when it comes to maintenance. While there is some maintenance required, it’s not as nearly involved as stovetops with grates or coils are.
Stovetop drip pans can be like a black hole of gooey charred debris that lives in your home. With regular use, this is an area in the home that can collect much overflow of grease, dirt, debris, and bacteria.
How to Clean Stovetops with Drip Pans
Follow these steps in order for the most effective approach to cleaning your stovetop:
(1) Remove the coils and set aside.
(2) Remove drip pans and wash them in the sink with dish soap and water. Then set aside to air dry.
(3) Scrub the stovetop and surrounding area with a terry cloth towel, soap, and water (made wet and soapy in the sink, under the faucet).
(4) Polish the stovetop with a super dry terry cloth towel. Use a second one if your polishing towel gets too damp.
(5) Lift up the hood of your electric stove top to clean the underside. Use the same cleaning method as the stovetop by using a wet soapy terry cloth towel and then follow up with a dry towel to polish clean. This is best done as a last step as fallen dirt and debris will collect in the underside while cleaning the rest of the stove.
Replace Drip Pans
Aluminum drip pans tend to become warped and stained with heat and use over time. For electric stove tops, the drip pans are replaceable and cost maybe $20 for a set of 4. While there are different makes and models of electric stove tops, most of them fit a universal sized drip pan.
⚡️For replacements, try these drip pans. There’s an option to choose the model of your stove as well as variations of chrome and porcelain black (which I personally love the black as it shows less dirt/debris).
Smart Burners
These flat burners are a great alternative to coils in regards to keeping things more clean and tidy. The reviews on this product seem to be hit or miss. We’re keeping an eye out for more advanced technology. The concept seems to be there, however.
Disposable Aluminum Drip Pan Covers
Aluminum can get recycled, making this a great option for those who don’t want to do as much stovetop cleaning and instead, just want to replace the covers.

Washable Drip Covers for Gas Stovetops
For a more sustainable option that doesn’t require as much recycling, try these washable covers that can get placed over the top of the drip pans or the base of a gas stove top.
✨ This washable cover for gas stovetops comes in black or silver. Depending on the shape and make of your gas cooktop, there’s this Samsung mat that covers the entire surface area, making the whole piece easy to remove to wash in the sink. Alternatively, there’s a rectangular shape that covers the surface area of 2 burners.
